June 15th (2020)

June 15th
92 days here

I awoke at 5.41am.

I have showered and have had a breakfast of toast (yay!) Kerrygold butter and blackberry jam (surprise, surprise).

I have even been out to Thai Huot Market and spent neary $50. Shock, horror!! Whew, that’s RM 200, and that is scary. Okay, over half of that was purchasing the Happy Call Square Korean Frying Pan (YQ-2005) made in China ($29.90), so I can cook for myself and will have no need to eat out.

Of course I shall still go out, mainly for Flat White coffee. But cooking for myself just makes life a little easier, and gives me a choice of foods that I can have. It’s not really been either comfortable, or indeed possible to cook downstairs, as others cook there and I impose on them enough as it is. My dear other half mentioned (in a PM) about the lingering food smell in that room. I reminded her that there is a window which I can open and the door to outside, on the other side of that room. We shall see….

I am so good, that at 9.55am I have also done the prep. for this afternoon’s class. As one of the teacher/students is studying architecture, I’ve decided to focus on ‘Modern’ and ‘Contemporary’ architecture this afternoon. I will quickly wiz through Antoni Gaudí i Cornet (Gaudi), Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech (Salvador Dali), Art Nouveau, Hundertwasser and Zaha Hadid, as well as even quicker looks at modern Indian, and Chinese architecture. Now I deserve a break.

The new square electric pan is a great success. I easily cooked chicken breast strips in olive oil and rosemary with white pepper, salt, garlic and bean sprouts. It is easy to clean too. I look forward to more adventures with this handy machine.

It is 4.29pm, after my afternoon class. I managed to weave a thread of nature in architecture from Gaudi through to Hundertwasser and maybe even to Hadid. It was interesting to see the reaction of these young adult Khmer to the spectacle of Gaudi, Dali and Hundertwasser. The nature inspired shapes and the glistening colours of those three in particular.

As usual, I am tired after class. I shall rest for a while then cook a cheese omelette. It is so nice to be able to do so, cook that is. Nice to have the freedom of choice.

Today’s spend is…..

Thai Huot Market...Happy Call Function Electronic Frying Pan; Afiat Sunflower Oil; Khmer Fresh Eggs; Dasani Water x 2; Chicken Breast; Coca Cola. Nguan Soon Whit Pepper Powder, Packet Mixed Vegetable; Kerrygold Pure Irish Butter; Peeled Garlic and Mild Soft Bread.

Total spend…$49.30
