April 7th
Before the New Year starts, Cambodian Police
chief Neth Savoeun has instructed his forces to maintain order during
the Khmer New Year and only allow family gatherings.
This
virus affects just about everything, and everyone. And, I am informed,
by Phany, who had spoken to a Travel Agent on my behalf, that Cambodia
is being lenient with visa overstayers like I will be next week, because
of the virus, with no need for an extension up until 1st May, at least.
In other news, Britain’s PM Boris Johnson has been moved into intensive care, after his condition worsens.
I
am lucky to be in Cambodia. In England, not even the Prime Minster (by
stealth) is safe from this virus pandemic, as he lays there in the
Intensive Care Unit, in hospital.
Phany,
supplies me with lunch (what yet again!) of sweet pork ribs with rice,
and a bitter gourd and egg soup. Delicious. I really am in Phany’s debt
here. I do feel guilty that I have little to offer in return. And a big
thank you too, to Bill Gentry, for creating this artistic oasis where we
can rest our metaphorical camels, drink enlightened waters and feast
(our eyes at least) on budding artists and their Khmer artistic beauty.
I
had a cheese (ish) sandwich for dinner, and the Anchor Beer I had in
the very small fridge from the next room. Then, there was, once again,
the familiar knock, knock, knocking on my door. I was very kindly
offered a plate of soft rice and mango for dessert. I had it with some
palm sugar, and it was wonderful. Once again these are mangos from
Phany’s home. They are very sweet with a strongly pleasant mango smell
and taste. I’m treated so much better here than I am at home
