Poem.....Invisible Man (2013)

Starbucks quiet
Photographer snaps
multiple shots
filling coffee-house
void
with
staccato bursts.
She and she talk
Mandarin
for
Chinese
newspaper
article

Venti cappuccino
chicken and cranberry
placid and flaccid
presented
by stick thin Indian
barista

Sense of alienation
ancient
white
powerless
It is a country
thriving
on
prejudice
Year of the horse
gallops
stately
red
towards us
on
gilded
hooves

It's January
it should be
cold.
The Velvet's
White Light White Heat
stab
through
the franchise's
window
Heat claws
at
the frame
I excuse
myself
unnoticed
Camus' s Stranger
Hesse' s Steppenwolf
with no Magic Theatre
Wells' Invisible Man

One day
 while the paint
is wet
I will slip
unnoticed
into
a more ethereal
canvas
become part
of a celestial
landscape
The sky will
dance
Bolan-like
in my hair
as my people
will be remembered
as once
being fair
and
not
bucking
stars.
